Singers and Public Speakers: Allergy season is in full swing everyone! For singers and public speakers, this can be a serious problem. Attacks can cause annoying drainage which in turn causes cracks in the voice, and even sore vocal cords. If you have a performance or lesson, try drinking herbal teas to soothe throat area. Also, try hot showers to assist the sinus cavity in draining BEFORE you go on stage. If you have severe allergy issues and must medicate, make sure to drink plenty of water to maintain hydration! Antihistamines are created to dry drainage, but also dries everything else in the body. So carry bottled water around and take small sips if you must. Also when communicating with an allergist, remember to let them know that you are a singer/public speaker.
